As the RISD nominee for the Geoffrey Beene Fashion Scholars Fund, I was asked to come up with a new store concept and to design a collection for that store. My store and brand, KOSA10, took into consideration the increasing fluidity of fashion identity and style, retailing high-end contemporary designers along with its own private label. I designed KOSA10's private label collection to balance the higher-priced and highly designed contemporary labels with lower-priced luxury basics. Additionally, I also had to create a marketing campaign for this store that would reach its 18-30 year old customer base. For KOSA10's private label line, my main objective was to create comfortable clothing that was ready for action and not too precious. From observations of the people we find the most stylish through street-style blogs, many of today's style icons cite comfort as the key to their way of dressing and the confidence that they exude. Comfort is confidence, confidence is feeling comfortable in whatever a person wears. My inspiration for KOSA10's private label line started from where we often feel most comfortable: in our beds. The proportions for the season's line are oversized and softly structured. The fabrics are primarily cottons, which become fluffy and more malleable with age; other fabrics are cozy wool flannels and boucles. |
